Pictured above left is a horse from Sweden that was trimmed with incorrect trimming protocols where the owner was taught to lower the heels by several methods that gradually trimmed the heels and up to 1/3rd of the hoof capsule right out of the hoof. The right picture shows how the hoof capsule was restored and the horse returned to a sound state.
Yes this is a dramatic example, unfortunately what you see in the picture to the left is just one form the hoof takes on when the heels are trimmed to low for an extended period of time. Most people do not know that the reason they are experiencing soundness issues are due to this practice of over trimming heels.
